University and a new life begins

Uni life began with a bang! I packed up my stuff and my parents drove me through to Glasgow the Sunday before uni was due to start. I had my room key for the halls of residence and made my way into the building. It was the "newer" building I would be living in and my room had an en suite...which would be idea for hangovers and my ibs flair ups lol! The flats were 6 individual rooms off a main hall with a shared kitchen and living space. I had no idea who I would be sharing with or even if we would get on. It was all very stressful but exciting at the same time.

We made our way to my "hall" and into my room. It was bigger than my own at home and had a double bed!! We started to unpacked when the door opened and a girl and her family strolled in. She said we were in HER room! My mum was the one who opened the door but hadn't realised I was the room ACROSS THE HALL and not in fact that one!! So here's me frantically jamming knickers into my suitcase so this poor lassie can get her room all the while taking a massive red neck lol!! Finally in my room which had a single bed but was still bigger  then mine at home we again unpacked. When my parents were finally ready to go my mum said to me "I can't believe you are leaving me" to which my dad said "she's not leaving she's living her life!". So they left. I sat on my new bed and cried my eyes out! Not because I was unhappy but because I was relieved and happy. I dried my eyes and immediately phoned my old school pal who had moved into her halls a couple of days before in Glasgow. That was the start of our Sunday night sessions!

Friday after university I worked. I had managed to get a transfer to Sainsbury's in Buchanan Galleries and was working in the bakery. I'd do a "late" on a Friday (6-10pm) then be back in on a Saturday early. I would go out on a Saturday night, party till 3am and head straight to Sainsbury's to start at 5am. There were times I went into that bakery half cut and still have the burns on my arms to prove it. My workmates did the same and didn't care as long as the work got done.

I loved uni and the freedom I had living in Glasgow. It was mad to be able to go and do whatever I wanted whenever I wanted without having to ask permission. Sadly my freedom was short lived....

I'd hoped that living in halls I'd meet other people to potentially share a flat for second year with. That was not to be. My halls flatmates were a mare! One was a stuck up,spoiled, private school girl who was funded by "daddy" and looked down her nose at us all. Two were already best pals from school and weren't keen on getting to know anyone else and the  other two very painfully shy and didn't interact with anyone. This meant that with a heavy heart and much trepidation I had to move home to Stirling after my year in halls ended. I would be commuting to university and placements.

As you can imagine the main issue I was facing was my mum! I was 19 and she thought I was still 9! When my mobile rang or I got a text she demenaded to know who it was, she'd burst into my room anytime day or night without knocking and she monitored my every move. When I wanted to go out with friends she again would cause an argument but now I didn't care. I went anyway and had a great time! I told her nothing about my "wages" from Sainsbury's and when she demanded "dig" money from me I told my dad. He confronted her as even though I had moved out and then back he had never changed her housekeeping money!! That resulted in me being ignored for a couple of days.

That Christmas and New Year was one of my worst! On Christmas Day dad gave me money to buy a new coat. I said that I would get the bus to Glasgow on Boxing Day for the sales. Mum had a meltdown! She was saying the weather was bad and I was a selfish, ungrateful wee bitch! She was so bad that dad stepped in and told her to go to bed! The next day I knew my life would be hell if I went to Glasgow so I stayed home. Dad and I were in the livingroom when she stalked in. She looked cocky and overconfident when she asked "why did you not go to the shops". I stoop up and said "because I know you'd make my life shit for the next few days so I'm heading back to my pals in Glasgow tomorrow instead." I left the next day and stayed with a friend until I had to go back for Hogmany.

On hogmany she started drinking a lot and dad asked her to "slow down a bit". She was drinking heavily and clearly not in a good place. She roared at him to fuck off because she was just having a good time! She then rounded on me and asked what I thought. I said that slowing down wasn't a bad idea so she can make the bells. She completely exploded and dived for me saying I was a "fucking bitch"! Dad dragged her back and again sent her to bed. We got up the next day and had invited her 80 year old friend over for dinner. She didn't speak to me the whole day. The venom she was carrying towards me was seeping out of her and it completely ruined everyone's day. That night I told my dad that I would be going to stay with my friend again short term till I found a flat and that I wouldn't be back at weekends to see them for a while. He was upset but ultimately he knew deep down why. My own mother had driven me from my own home.
